Quitting porn (also called "rebooting") can cure your ED to a large extent but as porn might be an addiction this can be challenging.
If you start your reboot I can tell you already that it is only a matter of days (or weeks at the most) until you will want to quit. That is the of process any addict goes through so if you have any friends who have attempted to recover from an addiction then find out about their struggles. In the end it is up to your willpower to make it through the reboot but I would like to offer some advice for you on how to make it through:
If you start your reboot I can tell you already that it is only a matter of days (or weeks at the most) until you will want to quit. That is the of process any addict goes through so if you have any friends who have attempted to recover from an addiction then find out about their struggles. In the end it is up to your willpower to make it through the reboot but I would like to offer some advice for you on how to make it through:
- Have somebody to hold you accountable, preferably a regular partner. During my reboot I had a lover who was aware of what I was doing and it was great to have her support me and not get frustrated when I came prematurely.
- Commit to a certain time period (60 days if you can) and don’t expect any positive results in that time. Do it with the sole intention of finding out how you will feel like after the time is up, then it will be easier to fight your urges to quit.
- Make you sure to eliminate temptations. Delete any pornography you might have stored on your computer and enable the family filter on your browser, making it difficult to access porn online. It also helps to share a bed with somebody as the lack of privacy makes it harder to find the space to do the deeds.
- Decrease your general use of the internet. You can go as far as shutting it off at home and go to public libraries should you need it. This might sound over the top for you but it might just make all the difference between overcoming ED and living with it for the rest of your life. Sorry for being dramatic but that’s the way it is.
- Join a sex addiction meetup, the most notable one being „Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous“. Check their directory for a meetup near you (www.slaafws.org). Don’t be fooled by the title, you can address your porn addiction just as much as others address their addiction to sex.
- If you have spent a lot of time with porn you will realize that you have more free time all of a sudden. As nice as it is, make sure to put it to good use or the emptiness might draw you back. Go out there and talk to women about sex, for example, or find a new hobby such as drawing or swimming - preferably something that gets you away from the screen.
- Team up with fellow „no-fappers“ who are on the same journey as you are by joining a support group such as www.nofap.in or www.yourbrainrebalanced.com. You are not alone so make use of it!
- Don’t give up! The women of this world will thank you for it and their rewards will be ever so sweet…
